Along with our partners, associations taking care of “canut” (silk worker) heritage & one of the last firms still producing Made in Lyon silk fabrics, this tour follows the steps of the weavers in traboules & workshops for a series of original discoveries at the crossroads of technique, chemistry, fashion, zoology, botany, medicine & mechanics
From Croix-Rousse to Vieux-Lyon, going down the hidden passageways used by the silk workers, this tour includes several private workshops :
A weaving demonstration on an authentic Jacquard loom with punchcards & on 1950’s electric looms
A presentation of Lyonnais silkscreen printing and inkjet printing
A demonstration of handpainted silk & rayon velvet
A presentation of silkworm farming from May to Oct. following the season of the mulberry tree
